The Congregation at Prayer

For the Second Week after Epiphany (January 20-25, 2025)

Invocation: In the Name of the Father and of the (+) Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Speak the Apostles’ Creed.

Verse: Psalm 89:1 – ”I will sing of the steadfast love of the Lord, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations.”

Hymn of the Week:  Lutheran Service Book #834 “O God, O Lord, of Heaven and Earth”

Hymns for Sunday: 830, 834, 624, 597, 517 (v. 11), 412

Readings for the Week: [The readings for Thursday-Saturday are the Scriptures for this coming Sunday.]

Monday: Nehemiah 8:1-10

What did the people do when they heard the Word of the Lord? Why were they told not to? Can we be the same? How?

Tuesday: 1 Corinthians 12:12-31a

How is the Church like a body? Is anyone unimportant? Why?

Wednesday: Luke 4:16-30

What did Jesus do? Where did He do it? What did He say? Why did this upset the people? Do people get upset today? Why?

Thursday: Acts 20:28–35

How are Paul’s words here to the Ephesian pastors words of life? How would they care for their flocks? Why? What do the wolves want to rob them of?

Friday: Titus 1:1–9

What does God want to give all people? How does He give it? Therefore what does He give them (and us!) to do this? How should they be? What should they do?

Saturday: Luke 10:1–9

How would the kingdom of God come near the people in Jesus’  day? How does it come near to us today?

The Catechism - The Commandments, the Second Commandment: You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God. What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not curse, swear, use satanic arts, lie, or deceive by His name, but call upon it in every trouble, pray, praise, and give thanks.

Collect for the Week: Almighty God, You called Titus to the work of pastor and teacher. Make all shepherds of Your flock diligent in preaching Your holy Word so that the whole world may know the immeasurable riches of our Savior, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

The Prayers:  Please pray for . . .

+ yourself and for all in need (remembering especially those on our prayer list).

+ God’s blessing, wisdom, and guidance for our congregation’s Building Committee.

+ the Indonesian Lutheran Christian Church, for God’s wisdom, blessing, guidance, and provision.

+ God’s blessing, guidance, and provision for the Lutheran Braille Workers.

Conclude with the Lord’s Prayer and Luther’s Morning or Evening Prayer from the Catechism.

Now joyfully go about your day (or to bed) in good cheer, child of God!
