The Congregation at Prayer

For the Third Week after Epiphany (January 27 - February 1, 2025)

Invocation: In the Name of the Father and of the (+) Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Speak the Apostles’ Creed.

Verse: Hebrews 2:18 – ”For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.”

Hymn of the Week:  Lutheran Service Book #519 “In His Temple Now Behold Him”

Hymns for Sunday: 396, 519, 617, 855 (v. 6), 937, 924

Readings for the Week: [The readings for Thursday-Saturday are the Scriptures for this coming Sunday.]

Monday: Jeremiah 1:4-19

When did God choose Jeremiah? Is this surprising? What does this teach us about God? What was Jeremiah to do? Why?

Tuesday: 1 Corinthians 12:31b - 13:13

Why is love so important? What happens without love? How is God’s love different than our love? How can we love like Him?

Wednesday: Luke 4:31-44

What does Jesus’ word do? What was Jesus doing at the beginning and ending of this reading? Why did Jesus do all He did?

Thursday: 1 Samuel 1:21-28

If Hannah prayed for a child, why did she give him to the Lord? What was more important to her: that her son live with her or with the Lord? Why?

Friday: Hebrews 2:14-18

How did Jesus share in our flesh and blood? Why did He have to? How does this help us now? How does this help for eternity?

Saturday: Luke 2:22-40

How does this story show us the ending of the old and the beginning of the new? How is Jesus the key to both?

The Catechism - The Commandments, the Third Commandment: Remember the Sabbath Day by keeping it holy. What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not despise preaching and His Word, but hold it sacred and gladly hear and learn it.

Collect for the Week: Almighty and ever-living God, as Your only-begotten Son was this day presented in the temple in the substance of our flesh, grant that we may be presented to You with pure and clean hearts; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen

The Prayers:  Please pray for . . .

+ yourself and for all in need (remembering especially those on our prayer list).

+ God’s blessing, wisdom, and guidance for our congregation’s Investment Committee.

+ the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kazakhstan, for God’s wisdom, blessing, guidance, and provision.

+ God’s blessing, guidance, and provision for Lutheran Bible Translators.

Conclude with the Lord’s Prayer and Luther’s Morning or Evening Prayer from the Catechism.

Now joyfully go about your day (or to bed) in good cheer, child of God!
