The Congregation at Prayer

For the Week of Pentecost 6 (July 21-26, 2025)

Invocation: In the Name of the Father and of the (+) Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Speak the Apostles’ Creed.

Verse: Psalm 50:15 – “Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.”

Hymn of the Week:  Lutheran Service Book #766 “Our Father, Who from Heaven Above”

Hymns for Sunday: 869, 766, 619, 779, 773, 794

Readings for the Week: [The readings for Thursday-Saturday are the Scriptures for this coming Sunday.]

Monday: Psalm 138

Why does God regard the lowly? How did He? Why does He know the haughty from afar? Who moved afar off? Why?

Tuesday: John 20:1-2, 10-18

Commemoration of St. Mary Magdalene. Why was Mary weeping? What didn’t she know? What took away her tears? How can this also be true for us in our trials, sadness, and fear?

Wednesday: Acts 11:27 – 12:5

Commemoration of St. James the Elder. The church was helping the people of Judea during a famine – why would Herod then kill her leader? What was Herod hungry for? What about you?

Thursday: Genesis 18:17–33

What was Abraham afraid of? Did he need to be? How was God patient with him? How is God patient with us, too?

Friday: Colossians 2:6–19

What does it mean to “walk in Christ Jesus?” Why do we sometimes not? What do we do instead? How does this hurt us?

Saturday: Luke 11:1-13

What is the foundation of our prayers? Why can we pray as we do? What confidence can this give our prayers?

The Catechism - The Lord’s Prayer: The Third Petition [Part 2]: Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. How is God’s will done? God’s will is done when He breaks and hinders every evil plan and purpose of the devil, the world, and our sinful nature, which do not want us to hallow God’s name or let His kingdom come; and when He keeps us firm in His Word and faith until we die. This is His good and gracious will.

Collect for the Week: O Lord, let Your merciful ears be attentive to the prayers of Your servants, and by Your Word and Spirit teach us how to pray that our petitions may be pleasing before You; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord. Amen.

The Prayers:  Please pray for . . .

+ yourself and for all in need (remembering especially those on our prayer list).

+ God’s blessing, wisdom, and guidance for our congregation’s Church Technology Council.

+ the Istanbul Lutheran Church, for God’s wisdom, blessing, guidance, and provision.

+ God’s blessing, guidance, and provision for LCMS Human Care.

Conclude with the Lord’s Prayer and Luther’s Morning or Evening Prayer from the Catechism.

Now joyfully go about your day (or to bed) in good cheer, child of God!
