For the Week of Pentecost 11 (August 25-30, 2025)

Invocation: In the Name of the Father and of the (+) Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Speak the Apostles’ Creed.

Verse: Luke 14:11 – “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Hymn of the Week:  Lutheran Service Book #842 “Son of God, Eternal Savior”

Hymns for Sunday: 905, 842, 540, 607, 701, 575

Readings for the Week: [The readings for Thursday-Saturday are the Scriptures for this coming Sunday.]

Monday: Psalm 131

Why is it good to be a child of God? The world tells us to grow up! Do we ever outgrow being a child of God? Why or why not?

Tuesday: Genesis 4:1-15

Why was God merciful to the unmerciful Cain? What hope does this give you? What sin is crouching at your door? How can you rule over it? What do we need?

Wednesday: Mark 6:14–29

The Martyrdom of St John the Baptist. How was Herod conflicted? How was John not? Who got the peace they were looking for?

Thursday: Proverbs 25:2–10

How are the ways of God different than the ways of the world? Why? What role does faith play in each?

Friday: Hebrews 13:1–17

How do these verses describe the new life of a Christian? How can we live like this? What do we need?

Saturday: Luke 14:1–14

“Rules for thee and not for me!” Are you ever guilty of that? What “rule” does Jesus live by? What does this mean for you and me?

The Catechism - The Lord’s Prayer: The Seventh Petition: But deliver us from evil. What does this mean? We pray in this petition, in summary, that our Father in heaven would rescue us from every evil of body and soul, possessions and reputation, and finally, when our last hour comes, give us a blessed end, and graciously take us from this valley of sorrow to Himself in heaven.

Collect for the Week: O Lord of grace and mercy, teach us by Your Holy Spirit to follow the example of Your Son in true humility, that we may withstand the temptations of the devil and with pure hearts and minds avoid ungodly pride; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

The Prayers:  Please pray for . . .

+ yourself and for all in need (remembering especially those on our prayer list).

+ God’s blessing, wisdom, and guidance for our congregational president, Peter Brondos.

+ the Confessional Lutheran Church of Chile, for God’s wisdom, blessing, guidance, and provision.

+ God’s blessing, guidance, and provision for our synod’s Veterans of the Cross program.

Conclude with the Lord’s Prayer and Luther’s Morning or Evening Prayer from the Catechism.

Now joyfully go about your day (or to bed) in good cheer, child of God!
