Monday: Psalm 91
What promises do those who “abide in the Lord” have? How do we do this? But why is it sometimes hard?
Tuesday: 1 Peter 5:6-11
How do humbling ourselves and resisting the devil go together? What do we sometimes get intoxicated with? Why is this so dangerous? How does suffering help us with that?
Wednesday: Luke 15:1-10
How can the same thing cause both grumbling and rejoicing? Do you ever grumble when you should rejoice? Why?
Thursday: Jeremiah 20:7–13
For some, the Word of the Lord is a reproach and a derision; for others it is a refuge and strength. Why? What’s the key?
Friday: Romans 6:12–23
What does it mean to be a “slave to sin?” A slave to righteousness? How are we set free from sin? What is the result?
Saturday: Matthew 10:5a, 21–33
Which is worse: bodily death or spiritual death? Why? How did Jesus’ resurrection provide life for us in both ways?
The Catechism - The Creed: The Third Article [part 1]: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. What does this mean? I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith. . . .
Collect for the Week: O God, because Your abiding presence always goes with us, keep us aware of Your daily mercies that we may live secure and content in Your eternal love; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord. Amen.
The Prayers: Please pray for . . .
+ yourself and for all in need (remembering especially those on our prayer list).
+ God’s blessing, wisdom, and guidance for our congregational president, Scott Killian.
+ the Ev. Lutheran Church of Ingria (Russia), for God’s wisdom, blessing, guidance, and provision.
+ God’s blessing, guidance, wisdom, and provision for our Synod’s Board for National Mission.
Conclude with the Lord’s Prayer and Luther’s Morning or Evening Prayer from the Catechism.
Now joyfully go about your day (or to bed) in good cheer, child of God!
