The Congregation at Prayer

For the Week of Pentecost 9 (July 27 - August 1, 2026)

Invocation: In the Name of the Father and of the (+) Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Speak the Apostles’ Creed. 

Verse: Psalm 136:26 – “Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.”

Monday: Psalm 136

Why repeat the refrain of this psalm over and over? What has God’s steadfast love done? Therefore what do we do?

Tuesday: 2 Samuel 22:26-34

Who spoke these words? When did he speak them? What confidence does he have in God? Why? How are these words true for us in Jesus?

Wednesday: 1 Corinthians 10:6-13

How do the stories of the Old Testament instruct and warn us? Are we tempted as they were? What happened to them? What should we be careful then? How does Jesus help us?

Thursday: Isaiah 55:1–5

Do we sometimes chase after the wrong things? Why? What do we need to learn? What rich food do we receive from the Lord?

Friday: Romans 9:1–13

Why is Paul sad? What does he want? What consolation does he have? Who is Israel? How is God fulfilling His Word to save?

Saturday: Matthew 14:13–21

Are the disciples telling Jesus how to do His job again? What is Jesus’ job? How is He doing it? How does He do so here?

The Catechism - The Lord’s Prayer: The Second Petition [part 1]: Thy kingdom come. What does this mean? The kingdom of God certainly comes by itself without our prayer, but we pray in this petition that it may come to us also.

Collect for the Week: Heavenly Father, though we do not deserve Your goodness, still You provide for all our needs of body and soul. Grant us Your Holy Spirit that we may acknowledge Your gifts, give thanks for all Your benefits, and serve You in willing obedience; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord. Amen.

+ God’s blessing, guidance, wisdom, and strength for our district president, Waldemar Vinovskis.
